On Thursday, August 8, 2024, a visit was made to TPS3R Bestari in Desa Bengkel
. The visit included meetings with the waste management leader, Pak Ketut, the village head, I Nyoman Wahya Biantara, and a representative from CLOCC Tabanan, Agus Sumber Dana.
Discussion Highlights:
- The community has implemented detailed waste separation at the source. Residents who subscribe already separate their waste.
- Organic waste is processed into compost, which is then used in local organic gardens.
- Initially, a monthly waste bank collected plastic waste from residents, with the proceeds distributed every six months during Galungan.
- Currently, non-organic waste is sold to ecobali, while significant reductions have been made in waste sent to landfills. Before TPSR, 10 tons of waste were sent to the landfill each month; now, it’s down to 3 tons.
- A survey showed that each household generates at least 1.3 kg of waste daily.
- To support waste separation, residents are provided with color-coded bags: large green for leaves, small green for household organic waste like vegetable scraps, blue for plastic and paper, red for residual waste, and a bucket for food scraps.
- Currently, around 200 households out of 400 in the village subscribe to the service.
