FGD on Waste Sorting: Ambengan Village’s Path to Organic Tourism

On Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Hall of the Ambengan Village Prebekel Office, an important activity for the future of the environment took place—the Source-Based Waste Sorting Forum Group Discussion (FGD). This event aims to find solutions in waste management directly from the source while exploring economic opportunities that can be utilized from the waste itself to support Ambengan Village’s goal of becoming a Go Organic Tourism Village.

This activity is a collaborative activity of the Rotaract Club of Bali Buleleng Sakti, Rotary Club of Bali Buleleng Sakti, Bali Waste Management Training Center, and DPC IWAPI Buleleng Regency. It is also supported by several other collaborative partners, namely the Tri Sadhanam Sejahtera Foundation, Luhungang Mesari Waste Management, Galeri 24, and GVe-money.

This FGD began with a socialization of the opportunities and challenges in implementing Source-Based Waste Sorting which was delivered directly by Rtr. Wulan Permata is always the PIC of the Rotaract Club Of Bali Buleleng Sakti Activities. In this session, Rtr. Wulan Permata explained the latest facts about the volume of waste in Indonesia and how proper waste sorting can reduce the burden on landfills (TPA). However, major challenges, such as low public awareness and limited supporting infrastructure, still await. However, in the midst of these challenges, there can also be opportunities for a circular economy that can be applied to improve the welfare of the environment and the community’s economy in an integrated manner.

After deepening the socialization, the activity continued with an interactive discussion. The participants who attended consisted of village residents, village officials, and representatives of farmer groups and subak kelian, PKK mothers, BUMDes administrators, Bankantibmas, Babinsa, and other village apparatus components as well as cleaning workers together discussed the challenges faced in the field and compiled creative solutions offered by Collaboration Partners that can be applied in Ambengan Village. This discussion aims to unite the perceptions and commitments of all elements of society in making the source-based waste sorting program a success. The commitment to the action plan conveyed by the participants was the formation of a youth self-help group for effective waste management, sustainable socialization of organic farming practices in each subak in the Village, determining the next schedule to carry out an MOU with Collaboration Partners.

This Source-Based Waste Sorting FGD is the first step for Ambengan Village to create a cleaner, healthier environment, while supporting a digital-based community economy. With collaboration and mutual cooperation, villagers are ready to face challenges and optimize existing opportunities.
